Laurence Aberhart

New Zealand photographer Laurence Aberharts best known for his photos of buildings from around the world. But that is not the only thing I like about his images, what interest me is his amazing landscape images. The way he captures the clouds moving by using long exposure time and  natural light source.

This is my photograph in the style of Laurence Aberhert. The image was taken outside my window late at night and  had a long shutter speed of 15 seconds.I Used  the moon as my natural  light source which really exposed the house at the front of my image. The clouds were moving  more rapidly at the top of the image which made the clouds more blurred at the top than the clouds at the back.

Curtis Mann

Curtis Manns particular photographic style is not just the way he takes photos but the way he manipulates its physical appearance. His curiosity in the chemicals and inks used to produce a photograph lead him to mix around with bleaches and chemicals to destruct the the physical photo and recreate it.This particular photo has been striped away by bleach and left with warm colours such as reds, yellows and orangey to make it seem very earth like.

This is my photograph in the style of Curtis Mann. This photo was destructed and recreated from being soaked in White vinegar for 10 minutes to soften the photograph paper so it was easy to strip away parts of the colour.I used a tea towel and softly wiped parts of the photo were I wanted the colour to be gone.I then put it out in the sun for an hour to dry. There is lots of texture is in this photo and scratch marks from were I have  pressed to hard.

Slinkachu

I love the unique style from Slinkachus "Little People Project" it involves the recreating and painting of model train set characters and then placing them as a scene on the streets.Using Low viewpoint to make things that in reality are very small to us appear  much larger, as seen in this photo the cigarette is shown to be a tall statue that over looks the people.Slinkachu brings a sense of worth to things that go unnoticed in reality.

In this photo I used  Slinkachu as an Artist reference.I searched for random miniature objects  lying around my room, including a spilt pot plant a small fake skull and a cheap army toy to create a scene of  discovery. To me this photo represents storeys of History and how European archaeologist would discover things that we couldn't Imagen.

Fiona Pardington

In this photo Fiona Pardington has made a still life that gathers together seemingly unrelated objects.I feel that her reason for doing this is to force  the viewer to  bring importance through observation  to everyday objects that they would otherwise only glance at.This photo is an artifact of the mundane.

I used Fiona Pardington as an artist reference to take this still life.In this photo I wanted to stick to the theme of nature to make my still life seem very earthly.I gathered random objects from around my house that related to my theme such as Apples,Flowers,Feathers, Crystals, Stones and Flax.I wanted  my still life to be an image that the observer could tell their own story from.

Francesca Woodman

Francesca Woodmans known  photographic style is having black and white blurred  photos due to long exposure time and fast movement , making the body and face obscured and very Ghost like. The light source in this particular photo is glaring down from above the head  and gives the representation  of heaven. The setting of an underground car park adds to her common style of shooting in very squared places that usually have gritty textured walls.

I used a shutter speed of three seconds to take this  photo in the style of Francesca Woodman. The photo was taken behind a white closet and does not have the grittiness that Francesca Woodman  has in most her photos.I used a a small lamp to give a more ghostly effect to the models movement as it was a very dark night.

Marti Friedlander

I like the angle of which Marti Friedlander has taken this photo .
It's the way that the eyes are not  looking into the camera that give a sense of struggle and wonder to the models personality.Friedlander makes this model seem as someone who is hidden in the world but lost  in their imagination. This photo is very beautiful.

I used Marti Friedlander as an artist reference for this photograph. The photo was taken at a gig for The All Seeing Hand ,and my model was the lead singer.I think that this image relates to Marti Friedlanders Image in the way that it is showing the Passions of an artist.Marti Friedlanders model is a painter and my model is a singer.I used artificial lighting to bring more focus to the models face. This photo also shows him as someone who is lost in their imagination.

Ralph Gibson

With such a simple photo Ralph Gibson tells a story  of great narrative. The simple technique of using unnatural light source to create a stronger shadow is how he shows the juxtaposition between the black and white, innocents and corruption and male and female.

The unnatural light source in this photograph really brings out the similarity's between me and my artists reference Ralph Gibson. The shadow for my photograph is against the wall and again like Ralph Gibson showed in his photo the contrast between the models face and the shadow rely bring out the juxstoposition between split personalities. My photo is taken from the side on to really hide more of the models personality and to let the observer tell their own story.
